Instruments rented from school(limited supply)

Oboe, Bassoon, Horn, Baritone, Tuba, Bass

Instruments Rented/Purchased on your own*

Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Violin, Viola, Percussion (practice pad, sticks, and rental of xylophone)

*A few of these instruments are available for rent from school for students on free/reduced lunch. Students should not be deterred from being in band or orchestra because of financial reasons.

**Percussion class is a very demanding course which involves performing on snare drum, mallet percussion (xylophone, bells, etc) AND other auxiliary instruments. Class size is extremely limited and competitive. Students interested in percussion must try out all the instruments on selection night so that they have a secondary choice in case they are not selected for Percussion.

♫ It is very important to choose an instrument that physically suits your child. There are certain physical characteristics that make playing some instruments more difficult and others easier. We want each child to have the greatest chance of success.

♫ We will attempt to balance each musical group. Playing in an orchestra or band that has a balanced number of the individual instruments is a great deal more enjoyable than playing in one that has too many of one instrument and not enough of another.

♫ Help your child keep an open mind in exploring your choices and have several possibilities in mind. Every child should choose an instrument that interests him; however, it has been our experience that there are several instruments that would be enjoyable for each person.

♫ My child is interested in sports. Are there conflicts with band or orchestra?

Orchestra and Band students at Clint Small Middle School are also members of every athletic team and activity on our campus. Coaches, club sponsors, and the band directors work together to ensure that every student has the opportunity to participate in any program offered by the school.

♫ How soon should I rent an instrument for my child?

We will begin using our instruments on the second day of classes and music stores often have excellent used instruments at a reduced price. The sooner you rent your child’s instrument, the greater the chance of your being able to take advantage of these bargains.
