Athlitic Information for the 21-22 School Year

Small Athletic Department

Students at CSMS are required to take either Physical Education or Athletics every year during middle school. PE is required both semesters in 6th grade. In 7th and 8th grade, students must take at least one semester of PE or Athletics. If you are interested in earning PE credit for a sport not currently offered at CSMS, the Austin Independent School District also offers an Off-Campus Physical Education (OCPE) program, which individual students must apply for in advance. For PE class (not athletics) each student needs just three items: black athletic shorts, ANY Clint Small Middle School t-shirt (including shirts from summer Cougar Camp or STEAM Camp), and a combination lock for their gym locker. PE shirts can be purchased in class, during Cougar Camp summer sessions, or during Passport to Success. The CSMS Athletics program includes a variety of team sports for 7th and 8th graders. Students intending to try out for a sport may enroll in Athletics for the corresponding semester (fall or spring). Most sports have A, B, and C teams.

BEFORE trying out for any of our teams, the CSMS Athletic Department must have a current AISD physical packet on file. Please support our program by joining the Cougar Athletics Booster Club! Simply print and complete the membership form and return it to the CSMS front office with your donation. What does the Cougar Athletics Booster Club do? Funds raised by our booster club support our sports teams. One of the most important uses of the money we raise is to pay for all C-Team coach stipends. This creates more opportunities for students who are just learning a sport or looking to experience being on a team! Very few schools in all of AISD can say that they are able to extend this important opportunity to such a large number of children.
