Smallville USA

Welcome To Clint Small Middle School where we focus on teaching the whole child through project based learning and peer collaboration. We follow the Project Lead The Way model of teaching. By tackling challenges, students are empowered to make a real-world impact.

We hope to make this page your one-stop-shop for everything Small related focusing on incoming 6th graders. 

Things you need to complete for the incoming school year:

Registration

Each year, you need to update your student's records. If you're applying to the Green Tech Academy, updating your records is part of the application process, and you must apply by the deadline of February 4, 2025. If you are not applying to Green Tech and wish to register your student at your home school, you can start the process on April 1, 2025, by logging into the parent portal and selecting the "Enroll Austin" tile. You can find more information about annual registration here. For transfer students, the required annual forms must be completed by March 25, 2025, or their seat will not be reserved.

Choice Sheets

Feeder Kids (kids that live in our attendance zone): Choice sheets are done in January/February. Counselors go to our feeder schools (Patton, Mills, Oak Hill and Baldwin) and teach the kids how to fill it out. They are turned in and sent to Small at that time. 

Transfer Kids (Kids that are not zoned to Small): Once we know which kids we will accept and they accept us back, we will hold a Zoom Choice sheet event. The Choice sheets are due with in a few days of that event. 

Mystery Kids (Kids that live in our attendance zone, but do NOT go to a feeder school and plan to come to Small for MS): These are kids we don't know are planning to come to Small and therefore don't know to communicate with them regarding choice sheets. Please contact Small so we can get your choice sheet asap.

Transition Flyers English or Spanish

Transition Camp for Incoming 6th Graders
Every year, we offer a transition camp for incoming 6th graders and students new to Small Middle School. This camp helps students make new friends, familiarize themselves with the school layout, and feel comfortable for the upcoming school year.

Dates: Two half-day sessions 8/4/25 and 8/5/25

Parent Camp
Date: August 6, 2025, at 5:30 PM

Scavenger Hunt
Date: August 6, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Format: Drop-in event (no pre-registration required)

This event is designed for students to bring their parents to campus and show them how to navigate the school. We will provide a sample schedule similar to what your child will receive on the first day of school, along with a scavenger hunt challenge.

We’ve found that this event helps ease parents’ worries while allowing kids to have fun and show off what they’ve learned.

Parent Portal: If you need to communicate with your child teacher, you can find their class schedule and each teachers email address in the Parent portal. Portal.austinisd.org

Band Instrument selection days

Once choice sheets are filled out and returned, parents will be contacted after Spring Break to set up an instrument selection meeting. Sign up form will be on the band website and sent out to parents via email as well as 5th grade teachers.

Our discovery instrument sessions:

  • Monday, March 31 (1PM-6PM) at Small MS Cafe
  • Thursday, April 3   (4:30-6:30PM) at Oak Hill  Elem.
  • Thursday, April 17 (4:15-6:45PM) at Small MS Music Facilities.

Students/Parents will sign up for one individual appointment.

School Supplies

As you may have heard, most middle and high school students don't shop for school supplies until after the first day of school. The reason is, every class has their own needs.

This is a little frustrating for those parents that want to get a jump on the good deals that go on during summer and not wait until everything is sold out. Especially this year when things are so up in the air. We have created a basic sample list to get you started. If you see a good deal, go ahead and pick up some of the items below.

Splashfest!

Join us on May 9th, 2025 from 3:50 to 6:30 pm for our biggest FUNdraiser of the year! 

Part wet, part dry carnival in the sun. 10 to 20 Inflatables like Water Slides, Water battle maze, melt down, rock wall plus much must more. Add 20 more Games and booths sponsored by different clubs and departments here at Small. 

Win raffle tickets for great prizes. 

Wristbands and Tickets go on sale late April.
